Teaching Practice 4 (Vocabulary)
Pre-Intermediate level

Description

In this lesson, students will study lexis in the context of recruitment. They are going to prepare a sample CV and place the new vocabulary in the related parts. They are also going to study pronounciation of e-mail and website addresses with the help of the audio file that they are going to listen. And then, they are going to have a chance to practise the new pronounciations of the addresses with their pairs in a back to back activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide awareness in pronounciation of internet jargon.

Procedure

Warmer (4-5 minutes) • To engage students and set a context

After greeting the students, the teacher tells about a friend who is looking for a job and asks students to think about what she needs to do in order to get a job in groups. Then she asks them to tell the suggestions and writes them on the board.

Teaching Vocabulary (16-18 minutes) • To introduce the vocabulary that they are going to learn

Teacher thanks students for helping her friend and asks them to create a sample CV for her. She asks them to think about what is written in a CV in pairs. After they finish, teacher writes the items on the WB. Teacher draws a CV sample and completes the parts with her friend's information. After preparing the CV, she elicits the vocabulary such as personal details, education qualifications etc., and writes them on the related parts of the CV. After finishing, teacher provides students with HOs and and asks them to complete. After they finish, teacher asks them to check their answers in pairs and checks the answers with WCFB.

Pronounciation Practice (10-12 minutes) • To help students improve their listening skills

In this part, students are going to look in the HOs while they listen to the pronounciation of the addresses. After they listen, teacher is going to ask students to practise reading the addresses on the screen.

Dictating Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with exercises which will help them to practice in pronounciation

Teacher asks them to sit back to back and gives HOs which includes some website and e-mail addresses and asks them to dictate the addresses in column A to their partners and write the addresses their partner dictates in column B. After finishing teacher checks the answers with WCFB.
