In this lesson I will do a follow up on Life in Britain and have the sts comparing their life style to others' living in Britain.

Materials

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students to practice and improve their speaking and writing skills.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask ss to look at the image (Big Ben) and say what they see in the picture. Sts say which country we are talking about.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Present images for the vocab words, 'houses, garden, school, shops, supermarket, pubs, restaurants, the city centre and the beach'.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T go over the target words to refresh sts mind and raise their awareness from previous lesson. Ask sts what the pictures indicate? Sts to write the correct vocab word next to each picture. Sts to write the new vocab words in their book.

Clarification (2-4 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T checks the pronunciation of the words.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Give out handout from Cutting Edge Students Book P28. Ss to look at the passage from Britain and find things that are same and different from Turkey. e.g. Most Turkish people live in flats....... Most office workers start work at 9:00am Sts to write similar sentences.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T give sts passage about her life in Turkey ask sts to read and think about their life. T will ask students to turn the paper talking about T's life style. T will put the students in groups (1 and 2). T will give out the strips about her life and ask sts to put them in the correct order and note them down. Both groups to check each others answers. Sts to start comparing T's life to theirs and find things that are the same in their life. Then, sts to compare their life to other students.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss to watch the video (life in villiage) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbD3uaXQDCQ Ss and write about what they see. Ss go in pairs and compare city life to villiage life according to the video. Ss change their partner and exchange ideas. Then, open class round-up
