Description

In this lesson the students will review and practice impersonal passive structure. Then they will write a short piece of information about a magical place using impersonal passive.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide review of language used for impersonal passive in the context of myths and legends

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of myths, legends and facts
  • To provide product writing practice of a description in the context of magical places

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The Ss will look around the class and will see the pics of some of the magical place around the world and some other pictures to communicate some popular myths and legends around the world. Then the teacher will ask the students to tell something about the magical place they have ever visited or heard or read about.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

The Ss will do a short matching exercise in groups. The target language structure will highlighted and discussed. Ss will involve in speaking and writing.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ss will complete two exercises based on the impersonal passive structure. Then they will compare their answers and the teacher will monitor during the tasks and will give feedback once they finish.

Productive Task(s) (10-13 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

The students will write a short description about the place which is believed to have some magical powers. They will do the task individually and will read each other's description. They will then tell which place they would like to visit.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

The teacher will go through the description written by the students, and will give the feedback and will do delayed error correction.
