Main Aims

  • To provide students with an opportunity to have the language clarification and practice about repeated actions and habits in the present and past through grammar

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide the students with listening about people with different eating habits

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To engage students in the topic about eating habits; brainstorm about food they eat

I am going to show different pictures of people with different eating habits. I will ask ss what they see and which style they prefer. Then I will ask them to discuss the food that is unhealthy in general but can be healthy sometimes. They will do it in groups. As a FB ask a few ss to report to the class.

Listening for gist (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with listening for gist about different eating habits

I will ask ss to look at the pictures of two people on their handouts. They will need to answer who has a healthy eating style and who has unhealthy. Then I will ask them to look at the 6 sentences below the pictures and guess who says sentences 1-3, and who says 4-6. Ss work in pairs. Then tell the ss that they are going to listen to two people talking about their diets. After listening ask ss to report to the class. Write down the answers on the board.

Grammar testing and clarification (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with an opportunity to revise, learn and practice structures that represent present and past habits, repeated actions and states.

I will ask students to match the structures of present and past habits, repeated actions and states to their definitions and examples. Ss will work in 4 groups. I will give them 10 min. Then they will mingle to check each other`s errors and mistakes. After that I will give them FB on the answer key. As clarification I will ask CCQ`s about meaning and structure of the mentioned items.

Semi-controlled grammar practice (10-12 minutes) • To have students practice Tl in written exercises

I will ask ss to do an exercise on the TL. They will do it in pairs. Give them 5 min. Then they will compare their answers with another partner. Give the answer key after. In the next activity ask ss to work individually. Gide them 7 min. Later on provide the ss with the answer key.

Freer practice through speaking (7-10 minutes) • To give the ss a chance to practice the TL through producing it when speaking

Ask ss to work in pairs. Tell them that they are going to discuss some topics about their present and past habits about food, free time activities, sport and so on. Give them 7-10 min.
