In this lesson, students will read a text on parties to confirm predictions and to indentify tiopic-specific vocabulary

Main Aims

  • To read a text on parties to confirm predictions.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To use contextual clues to identify topic - specific vocabulary.


Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set a context and get the students involved

I will ask them a questions about parties they have attended before. and what was the occasion and make them into pairs to talk about this issue

Exposure (10-15 minutes) • To provide context for the target language

I will dive them into groups and each group has a name. I will ask them to imagine that they are responsible for making a particular party after a week. I will ask them to make a list about what they are supposed to do to make it a good party. After they finish, i will ask them to scan the text and find out how many of their ideas are mentioned. Will they need th other ideas?

Vocabulary (5-7 minutes) • To find out the topic - specific vocabulary

I will ask the learners to work in pairs to find the words in the article to complete the sentences. I will circle round the students in case one of them asks or seems to don't know the meaning of any word.

Discussion (10-15 minutes) • To brainstorm what the students have learnt

For sure most of the students have thrown different kinds of parties, so İ will ask the students in pairs to talk about their own experiences. After that, I will ask every learner to talk about his/her partner experience.
