Teaching Practice 3 ( Listening)
Pre-Intermediate level

Description

In this lesson, students are going to improve their listening skills in the context of meeting a celebrity. They are going to play a game called "Who am I?" in the beginning. They are going to have pictures on their back and ask other people some questions about this celebrity and guess who is in the picture. In pre-teach part they are going to study lexis including job names and some related vocabulary. After that, they are going to listen to the audio and match the speakers to the stars. And then, they are going to listen to the audio again and do exercise 3 and complete the sentences with correct name. During this exercise, the teacher is going to check them by asking some questions if they understood the conversations or not. In the last part, the students are going to talk about what they would want to ask if they meet their favourite celebrity.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information about the listening skills in the context of meeting a celebrity.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy while they are speaking in the context of meeting their favourite stars.

Procedure

Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To engage students and have a general knowledge about the listening part that they are going to study

After greeting the students, teacher is going to stick pictures of famous people on the students' back and ask them to mingle and ask questions about these celebrities till they can find who they are.

Pre-listening Part (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with useful vocabulary which may help them during the listening part

Teacher gives HOs to students and asks them to match the words with the explanations. After they finish teacher asks them to check their answers with their pairs. After that, teacher checks the answers with WCFB.

While Listening Part (23-25 minutes) • To help students improve their listening skills

In the listening part, students are going to listen to three people on a radio talk show. They are talking about famous people they have met in their jobs. Teacher is going to provide the students with the Hos. In exercise 1 students are going to match the speaker to the stars while listening. After finishing, students are going to check their answers with their pairs and then teacher is going to check the answers with WCFB. In exercise 2, students are going to listen the audio again and complete the sentences with the names of speakers. While doing this, teacher is going to stop audio and ask some questions to check if they understood the conversations or not. After finishing this exercise, students will first check their answers with their pairs and then teacher is going to check their answers with WCFB.

Post Listening Part (9-10 minutes) • To provide students with further speaking activities in the context of meeting a celebrity.

Teacher talks about his/her favourite celebrity and tell students that she would want to ask some questions if she met with this celebrity. Then, teacher asks students to write down two things that they would want to ask if they met their favourite celebrity. Then she asks them to talk about why they wanted to ask those questions in groups. After that teacher asks them to tell if they have any interesting answers from their peers.
