Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about meeting in the context of being late

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of being late

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greet Ss. Ask if they have ever been late for somewhere that was very important for them. Write on the board time that I start the lesson( e.g. 12:15) and ask if I started on time or was I late. 12:15 on time 12:25 was late give examples of late comers( e.g Ulvi came on time, but Arzu was late)

Pre-Reading/Listening (7-9 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Show them the pictures of "contract, meeting, conference, report" show how to take notes. First drill and then show the pictures and let them say what they are.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Write the question "What is Frank's problem?" on the board. Tell Ss they are going to listen to the conversation and they need to find the answer to that question. ICQ: what do they need to find? Frank's problem Play the recording. Take FB. ( how did you know that he was late)

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Tell SS look at ex 3 and do it in pairs to see what they remember from the first listening. Listen again and check if they have chosen the right answers. Tell Ss look at ex 4a in pairs try to guess who says the sentences. Listen to Liz and Janet's voices. Then listen again and check. If there is need listen again.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned
