Description

In this lesson Ss learn new vocabulary in terms of free time and they will be able to use the proper verbs according to each free time activity.As a lead-in T illustrates new vocabulary and then focus on the right verbs.Next T cover a reading task and two listening tasks as well.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about Chelsea community centre in the context of free time activities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide Ss to practice vocabulary in the context of free time activities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To teach Ss new vocabulary and related verbs in terms of free time activities.

a) Presentation T will show some pictures of free time activities and ask Ss "What is this?" and try to get the right answers from Ss.then T will try to use some gestures in order to make them clear for Ss. b) Practice Next T will show Ss some small cards with free time vocabulary and their proper verbs as well and explain how to match them together.Then T will ask Ss to come to the board and do the rest. c) Drill When the previous stage is done,T will repeat the free time activities vocabulary and verbs to focus more on the pronunciation and Ss will follow the instruction.

Practice of free time activity vocabulary and verbs via survey (5-6 minutes) • To check Ss understanding of both vocabulary and verbs in terms of free time activity.

T will explain how to do the survey to Ss.first T explain how to ask the question"what do you do in your free time and then T will ask one of the Ss to come to the board ask him/her this question "what do you do in your free time?" then they will role play it for more the one time to make it clear for other Ss.Then T will give Ss the survey and ask them to stand up and move around in the classroom and do the same.

Reading comprehension related to Chelsea community centre (6-8 minutes) • To check Ss understanding of true and false in terms of time,

a) pre-reading T will write ITI on the board and ask Ss what is this?Then T will explain a little more for the word community by showing a picture.when the Ss get the right answer,T will explain about reading by showing the paper of it.Then T will check if the Ss get how to do to the true-false exercise. b)reading T will ask Ss to read the texts and check if the sentences which are related to the texts are true or false. c)post-reading T will ask Ss to work in pair and check the answers with their partners.Then T will ask some of the Ss to read the sentences and tell if they are true and false and T will ask other Ss why it is false.

Listening (5-7 minutes) • To check Ss understanding of free time vocabulary while listening

T will write all the items in Ss listening handout on the board and will explain Ss that they are going to listen to a person who phones the Chelsea community centre.then T will do one of the example by playing the track and tick the first activity she will hear.Ss will get the point and T will give them listening handout and Ss will listen to the track. if T find out ,Ss have difficulties with the ticking the right free time activities,she will play it again. T will ask Ss to check the answers with their partners and then T will tick the right ones on the board as well.

listening (10-12 minutes) • To check Ss understanding of correcting wrong things in the sentences

T will show the Ss listening handout and will tell them they are going to listen again but this time to correct the wrong things in sentences.then T will check if they know all the words in sentences.(if Ss have problems with some new words then T will illustrate some words with pictures like meet people and etc) then T will give Ss the papers and ask them to listen and underline the correct answer.T will play the track for two times. finally T will ask Ss to check the answers with their partners and ask some of the Ss to read the correct sentences .

Game (Board-rush) (5-6 minutes) • To check Ss understanding of both vocabulary and verbs in terms of free time activity.

T will stick some pictures of free time activity on the WB and explain how they are going to play the game.T will do one example with other teachers in the classroom.when the Ss get the point,T will ask Ss to break down in the smaller group of four.Then T will say for example"play tennis" and the students must catch the right pictures from the board.
