Description

In this lesson students will focus on grammar of future tense and speaking through the context of planning to attend events. Students will read and speak about these events and review future tense form and review conditional conjunctions

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of future tense grammer in form through planning events context.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a creative conversation in the context of planning future events.

Procedure

Intro/Warm-Up (5-5 minutes) • Build interest in the topic, engage the students, and introduce the context of the lesson.

Teacher will review last weeks lesson about interests and recall some of the answers and ask Ss to think about their individual interests, particularly those that take planning or that happen as special events. (Sports, Trips, Holidays, Theater). Ask students to think about how they invite others to these events and encourage a few responses.

While-Reading (3-5 minutes) • Introduce the topic, gist reading, and review vocabulary to be used

Teacher will distribute HO (Reading pg 108) and allow students to read for Gist. Ss will be instructed to skim over discriminant choice activity initially. Ss will be skimming for what is being discussed and what is being decided as they read?

While-Reading (10-15 minutes) • Use detail reading to complete grammar excersices related to future tense.

Ss will read again for detail and complete the discriminant exercise in the reading. After they read the exercise they will be asked to check their answers with a partner. Students will be given an answer key to check answers, but no explanation will be given yet to why the answers are correct.

Grammar Focus (15-20 minutes) • To provide controlled practice of future tense grammar focus

Students will be regrouped into 4 groups and HO(Analysis) will be given. Each group will be responsible for answering 1 of 4 questions on the hand out and find examples from the reading. After students finish this section FB will be given for each section as students present the material to the class. The teacher will review this information with the class and record it on the whiteboard in a chart form. Students will have the information printed on sheets of paper that compete the chart and will be asked to stick that paper on the board to complete the chart. Grammar focus will be on Future Tense and the use of the present continuous and present simple to address future use Future Tense forms: Be + going to + Infinitive Will/won’t + Infinitive Present Simple Timetabled action – or – With a conditional conjunction Present continuous Be + ing A HO (Conditional Conjunctions) will be given to the students as support to the present simple idea.

Grammer Review (10-15 minutes) • Provide practice to reinforce grammar

Students will work in pairs on HO (practice 1) after they match in pairs they should work with a new partner and match the letters from Practice 1 to HO (practice 1 match) which will show the students have grasped the concept. FB will be given in class HO (Practice 2 and Practice 3) will be available for time filler as needed and to support and practice their knowledge of the material

Post-Grammar (0-15 minutes) • To provide a freer practice and an opportunity to personalize the language

Students will be given HO (Speaking questions) and should choose 2 scenarios and briefly make notes based their answer. Students will mingle around the room and practice speaking with other students
