Procedure

Warm Up (2-5 minutes) • To activate schemata

T says " I was looking in the mirror this morning and i saw i have some grey hair and i'm a bit fat, what could i do to look better?" alter improve reshape enlarge/reduce enhance make something bigger/smaller "what would you like to change physically, about yourself"

Lead In (2-5 minutes) • To introduce the topic and Ss engaged in the text and to set a prediction task

T shows Ss two photos of Cindy Jackson. T asks 'What is the difference between the two pictures?' "Discuss similarities and differences"

Reading (5-8 minutes) • to develop Ss ability to skim a text for general understanding (gist)

T chests Ss handout and tells Ss they will have 1 min to skim the text and see if their predictions are correct. ICQ: "Will you read carefully?" - No "Will you check to see if you are correct about the pictures?" - Yes. "You have 2 mins to read" Ss read Ss check their prediction in pairs. WCFB: T elicits the connection between pics and then checks that Ss understand some of the key vocab and concepts: face-lift nose job chin reduction implants liposuction

Target Language intro (5-5 minutes) • target language

T regroups Ss- pairs T asks "Do you think there is anything wrong with what Cindy has done?" "I'd like you to discuss with your partner" Ss have 3 minutes. T gives HO-02 T reads the statements out. T elicits Ss understand meaning of to spare / what really matters / end up / Barbie dolls / plastic surgery. T then ICQ's that they then have 3 mins to read them to each other and discuss the statements. T then asks them what kind of statements are these? T says 'Hypothetical'

Language Focus (5-10 minutes) • to check Meaning, Form and Pronunciation of the target language

T checks the Ss understand Imaginary/hypothetical. T gives HO-03 to Ss "look at the 6 sentences with your partner and decide which are ABOUT past. "Which are finished" "Lets do the first one together" a) If only i had $100,000 to spare .. If/If only + past simple I wish + past simple ( something you want but don't expect to happen) What if + past simple It's time + past simple ( expresses disapproval) Imagine + past simple Suppose + past simple

Practice 1 (5-10 minutes) • to provide Ss with controlled practice of target language

T regroups/re-pairs Ss T gives HO-04 - four illustrations T DEMOS the first one with them. I wish ... It's time ... T then gives Ss 5 mins to create their own sentende for the other 3 pics. T monotors T then elicits example answers with WCFB

Practice 2 (5-10 minutes) • to provide Ss with freer personalised speaking practice of the target language

T gives the students HO-05 'Wishful Thinking' Ss work in pairs to fill in the blanks- they have 3 mins. Then T asks them to use these sentences to get answers from around and ask other Ss. They must get an answer from a different student for each answer T listens for errors to correct on WB or on the spot

If Time: Extended Practice (5-5 minutes) • Speaking

T writes on board I wish / i have / curly hair If only I / can / drive I wish Sally / speak up. I can hardly hear her. If only we / be / still on holiday. If only I / not get / so nervous before exams. I wish you / shut up / and / listen / to me. T nominates Ss to correct sentences.
