Description

In this lesson, students learn how to use 'How many' and 'How much' based on the grammar exercise and listening tasks.The lesson starts will start with countable/uncountable nouns revision. The first exercise is grammar for 'How much' and 'How many'. This is followed by listening tasks where students listen to a conversation about a flat and complete exercises for gist, listening for key words and listening for details.

Procedure

Warmer (0-5 minutes) • To activate Ss prior knowledge about countable and uncountable nouns.

1. T draws a two column table on the board (countable, uncountable). 2. T shows Ss some pictures of countable and uncountable nouns. 3. T puts Ss in pairs. 4. T asks Ss to put the pictures in the right column on the board. 4. If time permits, T will ask Ss to make (there is ), (there are) sentences with the photos on the board. ICQs: Are you going to work on pairs? Yes Are you going to put pictures on the board? Yes

Grammar Revision (0-10 minutes) • To get Ss to use the target language

1. T revises countable and uncountable nouns, with how much and how many. CCQs: a.Do we use uncountable noun with how many? No, How much. b.Is furniture countable? No, Uncountable. c.Do we use how much with kitchen? No, How many. d.Do we use how much with rent? Yes e.Do we use much with plural nouns? No, many. 2. T asks Ss to do exercise 5-a pg. 41 (Gap-fill with how much and how many) . 3. T demonstrates by doing 1 as an example, 4. T asks Ss to circle the noun and write C for countable and U for uncountable. 5. T asks Ss to ask partner these questions. 6. T gets feedback. 7. T asks Ss to do exercise 5-b pg. 41 (Ask each other the questions from 5-a and answer using 'There is ____ .' and 'There are ____ .' sentences. 8. T demonstrates by doing 1 as an example. 9. Pre-istening (0-5 minutes) • To pre-teach lexis and create context.

1. T pre-teaches Ss vocabulary by asking them to match the picture with the word. 2. T drills vocabulary. 3. T show a picture of Alex so that Ss can know him. 4. T asks Ss to do 6-a pg. 41 (Read the advert again and find things they like) 5. T Demonstrate by giving example. 6. T asks Ss to check their answers in pairs. Listening (0-15 minutes) • To get Ss to listen for gist and for key words

1. T asks Ss to listen for the reason why they are having this conversation. 2. T asks Ss to listen to 6-b pg. 41 (Listen to the talk between Alex and an estate agent.) 3. T elicits the reason for this conversation. 4. T asks Ss to listen again to 6-b pg. 41 and then put the words in order. 5. T asks Ss to check their answers with partner. 6. T gets feedback. ICQs Do you know who's Alex? Yes. Is this conversation about Alex trying to rent flat? Yes. Are you going to put words in order? Yes. Are you going to work in pairs? Listening (0-8 minutes) • Listening for detail

1. T asks Ss to do 7 pg 41 (Listen again for details, answer T/F) 2. T demonstrates by doing the first sentence. 3. T plays recording twice if necessary. 4. T asks Ss to check their answers with partner. 5. T gets feedback, elicits why the false answers were false. ICQs Are you going to write T or False on the following sentences?
