Description

In this lesson, students will be speaking about "New Road" and other subjects using the unreal conditions 1. In the beginning, students will be introduced to the unreal conditions through a whole class discussion. After that, the students would be practicing them through reading and listening to audios. Finally, the students would be asked general questions and are expected to answer them using the unreal conditions.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of real-life examples and exercises.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan and gist reading practice using a text about dilemmas in the context of new roads

Procedure

Warmer (5-10 minutes) • Activate schemata, set a context and to focus on the meaning.

Teacher will say a short story about herself. " I work as a waitress in a fast food restaurant in my home country and I barely have enough money to pay my bills.I am planning on going to Los Angeles with a friend of mine during the summer break but I don't have enough money to do so. However, my friend is travelling to Los Angeles and invited me to go with her but I do not even have money to pay my plane ticket" Then, the teacher will give CCQ's and get examples from students in order to check their understanding.

Pre-reading/ pre-speaking (2-4 minutes) • Familiarizing them with the topic they will be reading about.

There will be given three newspaper headlines hanging on the board and they would discuss in groups what they think the short articles will be about.

Reading/Speaking (10-25 minutes) • Using the unreal conditional in the context of "New Road"

The class will be divided into three groups. Each group would have a different article from a newspaper. Each group will then inform the other groups about their article while one of the students from the group would come up to the board and write down the main points of the article. Finally, the students would be discussing the questions of ex.3.

Post-Speaking • Practice speaking using the unreal conditions.

Students will be discussing their regrets.
