Having a Trip
Pre Intermediate level


In this lesson students will practice their speaking skills by planning a trip and advertising it to their pairs.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a presentation in the context of planning a trip

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of verb patterns in the context of planning a trip


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss discuss with their partners where would they like to take their friend. Ss ask their partners 2 questions and answer in pairs. Questions will be presented from the projector to help Ss. 1) Where would they like to go? 2) Why would they like to go there? After that Ss read some facts about Bursa on the wall and then discuss again with their partners where else they would like to go after seeing some places.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Ss examine teacher's own plan for the next week. His friend is coming to Bursa and he makes a plan to go some places in Bursa with him. They practice previous lesson's verb patterns and it provides a model for their production. They look at the pictures of the places and listen to T's story. At the end, they answer questions about the plan to check Ss comprehension. Ss answer these questions individually and then they check their pairs' answers.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ss highlight to the language T used while telling his plans while working on the worksheet. They focus on the verb patterns and they highlight the adjectives from the T's plan. It's an individual study. They individually study on the concept and then check their answers from their pairs.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

First in 3 students' groups pick up a lottery card per each which has a touristic place on it. Then all together they make a mini trip plan. They benefit from their worksheets if they want. They stick their mini plan on the wall and every group have a look at it. Then they set up new groups with a pair. They work together and make a five day trip using the verb patterns and adjectives. They publish their work again on the wall and each group examine the plans to vote and decide one best trip plan.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T does a D.E.C. And each group get a different plan to examine and fix the mistakes.
