Description

In this lesson, the students will read about 24/7 services and will practise the receptive skill of reading and listening. the lesson starts with showing the students some images of different jobs , this is followed by listening to a group of people about 24/7 services. Finally the students express their opinion using some adjectives like good,bad,ok,..etc in a functional language tasks .

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher show the student a hidden picture, getting them to guess what picture is it and whether it is a 24 hour job seven days a week or not? Teacher uses a lot of miming , body language and drilling as well to let the student guess the word T. presents the context using the pictures asking some ccqs like: Is it important job? Do we see him in the morning? DO we go to him at night? do we go to him in the afternoon? till they know they can go to bla bla at any time

Pre-Reading/Listening (6-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The teacher shows the students some pictures representing some jobs round the clock getting them to guess what their jobs are, and whether they are a 24/ 7 service night and day or not. The teacher show the students a ppt slide presenting the words day, days, hours,and week getting them to guess the meaning then to work the sentence out reading it . The teacher ask students to look around the class , what is there? what will we do with it? getting them to think for a while

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The teacher tells the students they will read the texts on the wall in pairs asking them to go and read and find : three jobs , three places , three expressions that mean 24 / 7 Students do it in pairs . some nedded CCQs Are working alone or together? Are you going to find one place or three? Are you going to find one job or three? Are you going to find a 24 / 7 expression? students read out what they have found and check each others answer. The teacher then shows the students a ppt slide and make a feedback of what they have found asking them to scan the text again and underline the jobs,places and expressions.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The teacher tells the students they are going to listen to four people talking about 24/7 services. then the teacher shows them the pictures in a ppt slide asking them some questions about each picture i.e In Picture a Can you see a taxi driver or a.......? Is a hospital or school? Is day day or night? Are they working or not? DO they stop working at night? students get enough scaffolding to be ready to listen to the four people and decide which picture it is students work individually then I showed them the pictures Students listen and number the pictures then the teacher showed the answer to check each other. The students listen again to speaker four from Reading and listening 3 to write the missing word great then the teacher show them a slide on ppt to find out the adjectives and write it in the correct place.

Post-Reading/Listening (7-9 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The teacher asks the students to ask each other using the symbols of the adjective to say their opinion whether they think it's great,good,ok , bad, fantastic or terrible students work in pairs The teacher gives students hand out with two questions and take turns to ask and answer each other and tick the adjectives whether they agree or not? follow up
