  • To provide review and practice of present tenses - simple / continuous in context of talking about people you know

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide listening for specific information in context of talking about photographs and to recycle lexis of family and friends

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To show some person photos and elicit questions from the students and answer questions.

vocabulary lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To expose ss to necessary target vocabulary

EX1 page 10 cutting edge int - ask ss to write relationship word into the correct group. Ask ss to check in pairs before WCFB

vocabulary practice (8-10 minutes) • to give ss an opportunity to practice target vocabulary in context of guessing game

EX2 page 10 cutting edge. Give HO to ss. tell ss I will read some instructions and I would like you to write the answer in any space. Give WC examples first and ICQs before moving on to next question. Can I write here? Yes Can I write here? yes ... Read instructions and students fill-in spaces. Demonstrate next part - ask ss ... who is ....? - He's my cousin. Add follow-on questions - how old is he? What's his job? Elicit further questions from class. What does 8 mean? My brothers and sisters. Who is your favorite brother / sister? .. Put students into groups of three and ask each other about the people. WCFB - ask ss to tell the class about one person in their group.

Exposure (3-4 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a a listening text in the context of talking about photos

Show ss the pictures and identify Katrina. Explain that Katrina is going talk about her birthday party and the people who came. Elicit ideas from the students - what is the person's relationship to Katrina? Danny - friend / boyfriend Ask ss to listen to the text and write the relationship next to the people. Check in pairs before WCFB.

Further exposure (3-5 minutes) • to give further exposure to the target language in context of listening

Ask ss to fill in the gaps in EX2 listening p10 cutting edge. Ask ss to check in pairs. Play listening again and let ss check answers. WCFB:

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Elicit from the ss the tenses in the text and examples. Ask ss to underline simple ___ and continuous ....... Elicit examples and Show on a power point - highlighting the structure.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language
