Description

In this lesson, the sts will pratice receptive skills. T will provide text sts can read before they listen to what they just read. The sts will scan reading, skimming and listen to details while they listen. Context is "Here & There." Sts will identify the objects in the picture on page 54 after the vocabulary and grammar is presented.

Main Aims

  • To pratice receptive skills, read, skimming and scan text for details. After the sts will implement what they heard in the listening.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about Here & There in the context of gist will be used to choose the best topic for the text.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students by brainstorming about living underground

*Pictures on WB 'living underground' *T displays questions as a model on WB ( pictures of hot/cold) Do you want to live there? *T asks sts about their ideas? Is it a good idea? Is it hot or cold? * T will ask Sts what we will read about by looking at the model on the WB

Pre-Reading/Listening preparing (2-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and gist

*Sts will read text in a handout from global beginners course book pg 55 *Title not included in reading text. *T will stick text on the walls *Sts while reading I will monitor *T will write on WB ( which other countries have underground living) *T gets FB from Sts ICQs Will we write? No Will we read? Yes

While-Reading/Listening #1 providing sts to understand what they read by listening to the exe rcise 2.61 (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

*Sts will listen to exercise 2.61 two times *Sts will talk to each other in PW *T will give handout to sts with questions. Is it hot/cold Is it in the desert? Where is Coober Pedy? Does he live underground? *T will monitor sts to see if they understand what the sts listened about *T will ask sts for FB ICQs We will listen? Yes We will write? No Will we work in pairs? Yes CCQs where is coober pedy? Australia WHat is his name? Marc Does he live in a desert? Yes

While-Reading/Listening #2 exercise 2.62 (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

*Sts will first look at picture on pg. 54 in the coursebook that will be in front of them also on the WB. *Sts will skim and scan here to prepare for the next exercise. *T tells sts to put a tick next to the things sts will hear in the listening *T will provide an example on the WB so sts can see what they have to do *Sts will listen to the listening exercise 2.62 twice (if we have time) hopefully *T monitors and provides help if necessary ICQs Will we write? Yes Will we listen? Yes Do we work alone? Yes

Post-Reading/Listening (5-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

*Sts will check answers first alone *Sts will work in PW or group of 3 *T provides feedback. answer key on WB *T monitors and provides delayed error correction needed on the WB, (mabye) if needed *T will ask eliciting of the vocabulary learned FB ICQ: Do we speak? Yes Do we write?
