Description

In this lesson, students will discuss the reading on using Present Perfect Simple and Present Perfect Continuous to extend their knowledge. They will discuss and do tasks to have a better understanding the difference between Present Perfect Simple and Present Perfect Continuous. Than they will gist read text with gaps in it to be fulled later. Lastly they will discuss their own opinions on the subject of the text.

Main Aims

  • To extend Ss's knowledge of present perfect - continuous & simple - & to give controlled, semi-controlled & freer practice in the TL through the context on the life stages & changes.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and angage students

T will introduce herself. T will ask students to introduce themselves and tell something they have never done in "I have never (Past tens) ........" form. T will refer back to the previous reading and ask Ss to discuss what Maria has seen and what she's been doing recently. T-S task feedback (elicit few ideas)

Focus on TL (5-7 minutes) • To extend the knowledge of differences and uses of Present Perfect Simple and Present Perfect Continuous

Ss will look in to the grammar used in the reading and elicit ideas of differences and uses of Present Perfect Simple and Present Perfect Continuous. T will put Ss in groups of 3. Than, Ss will work together to consider the meaning of the TL, group & match the sentences to their meaning , sticking their answers onto the wall. Ss will correct each other, T will get involved if necessary.

Controlled Practice of the TL (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more chalenging and detail grammar

Ss will gist read the text and discuss who they think wrote it and what the people are planning. Ss will read the text again and work in pairs to decide if the verbs in the gaps are present perfect simple or present perfect continuous & and put them in correct form. Ss will fill in the gaps on w/b.

Semi-controlled practice of present perfect continuous (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more detailed speaking

T will refer back to reading about what to do at a party. T will hand out picture from the book to open a discussion between Ss. Ss in groups of three/four will work in groups to say what the people in the picture have been doing recently. T will appoint a secretary in each group and set a time limit of three minutes. Ss will swap papers after time is up and the group with the most answer is winner.

Freer speaking & practice of the TL (10-12 minutes) • to students to use what they learn in their own less controlled conversation

T will ask students what changes that have taken place in their lifetime. Ss in two groups will discuss the questions handed to them regarding what have changed in their lifetime. T will give different questions to two groups. T will make notes of errors Ss make. If time - Two groups will discuss with each other on their answers. If no time - Representatives from both group will summarize their discussions.
