TP #3 Listening/Speaking

Description

In this lesson students practice listening and speaking. They will use the vocabulary and phrases they have learnt in previous lessons. They start by talking about their common experiences of big events and then practice some listening. Finally there is a free speaking practice in which students need to interview and give feedback about each other.

Procedure

Warmer (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the contexts of events and celeberations

There will be four pictures on the walls about memorable events. Ss will stand up and walk around the class in pairs. They will talk about each picture and guess what each event is about and choose their favorite among the four events.

Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To lead the students to listening stage and prepare them with some ideas. They will also be exposed to some of the vocabulary they need for the listening.

Students look at the box of activities in exercise 1. They need to talk and find the events that they have both been to. Students work in pair and go ask each other question using the question form: Have you ever been to .............? Teacher will demonstrate and model the question and the activity before they start the task. The question will be written on the board as they may forget and start using simple past instead. ICQs are necessary at this sage: -Are you going to talk about the events you've been to or the ones you want to join later? +The events we've been to -Events that only one of you has been to or both of you? +The events we've been to both

Listening for gist (4-6 minutes) • To help students get ready for the next stage(listening for details) and give them some clue

Students will be given five words on the board : Brazil, Moscow, London, April, Nirvana. They will listen to the audio and match these five words with Speaker 1, Speaker 2, Speaker 3, Speaker 4. They check their answers in pairs.

Listening for details (8-10 minutes) • This stage is when we are doing the main lesson, students listen and try to take notes of their understandings

The table prepared for this stage will be handed out. Student will have some time to look at the table and understand the questions. Since the students have listened to the audio in the previous stage they will be familiar with the meaning of speaker 1-4. After they answered the questions, Students will check their answers in pairs. As they are checking their answers they can explain why they need to explain why they have chosen each answer. Answer keys will be given to students.

Post-listening controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • To clarify some definitions and vocabulary. Also get the students practice speaking on this subject.

Teacher will focus students on some of the words in Ex.3 and and ask CCQs such as: -If something is utterly spectacular, do we want to look at it or it's not interesting? -Come alive , Does the city move? are there many people in the city? Students will work with a partner and try to remember which event each sentence is about. students can look at the transcript and check their answers.

Post-listening free practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide speaking practice on the subject, identify their strength and weaknesses, error correction

Students will be given page.75. T explains that they are going to think about the subject and the questions that they want to ask on their interview. They can take a look at the first activity they had and get ideas. T will help them write questions. Students look at the Useful language box at the bottom of the page. Then students will Sit in pair ask and answer questions. After they finish their interviews, they will mingle and give feedback about their interviewee. Teacher will monitor and take notes in order to have delayed error correction.
