Description

In this plan Ss practice functional language to make suggestions,invitations and giving responses in the context of going out through guided, semi guided and freer activities.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of language used for invitations and making suggestions in the context of Going Out.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation about making suggestions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss work in pairs. Ss take a card,reads and writes back to T. Ss takes the second card (Would you like to join my lesson?) Ss replies to T. T writes different suggestions to each Ss such as " It's very hot,why don't we open the door?, Let's close the windows, Why don't we turn on the air conditioner? How about sitting next to ....., Why don't we sit in a circle? Let's start."

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss look at the pictures and create an identity for each people. Ss make a list of suggestions for each person.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss take half sentences and try to find other halves. Ss match and reads out the sentences.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T gives new names to Ss.( ?, would, like, to , to the cinema, you ,go,shall, how, about ) Ss try to stand in a line in the correct order. -Would you like to go to the cinema? -Shall we go to the cinema? -Why don't we go to the cinema? -How about going to the cinema? -What about going to the cinema? -Do you fancy going to the cinema? -Let's go to the cinema. T writes the sentences built by students on the WB. Ss underlines the suggestion words. T shows positive and negative responses on the board. (Ok, Yes, Why not?,That's a good idea. I'd rather not. I'd love to, but I'm afraid.. I'm busy,That's very kind of you but..) Ss group the positive and responses CCQs: (pointing the positive responses) Do I want to go or not? I want to go (pointing to the negative responses) Are we going or not? No Negative or positive answers? Negative T highlights pronunciaton of responses. That's a good idea. I'd rather I'd rather not. I'd love to. That's very king of you but,

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss complete the dialogue. T provides feedback (the answer key) Ss sit back to back, shares the roles and practice the dialogue.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss sit in a circle. S choose a role card. Ss ask appropriate questions. S agrees only with the one who suggest the clue activity written on the card. Ss take turns and play

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss work in groups and plans a holiday. Ss make suggestions, give responses, explain reasons for their answers? T monitors , makes notes about errors on WB. T highlights the errors.
