Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the form and usage of the present simple tense with (I, you, we, they)

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice forming Wh- questions in the present simple tense with (I, you, we, they)
  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about daily routine in the context of my daily programme

Procedure

Warmer/ Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show a short video clip: two actual students from the class were filmed having a dialogue about daily routine. Also, I will ask the presenters three questions about their daily routine as brainstorming.

Gist reading (5-7 minutes) • To provide Ss with more practice on the daily routine

The learners will read quickly (1 minute) about my daily routine to decide if the five sentences that follow are true or false. Have a peer correction before the feedback.

Language analysis (10-12 minutes) • To provide Ss with the language analysis of the present simple tense

Using the same worksheet Ex.2 check the form of the present simple tense by asking the Ss to underline the verbs in the previous exercise eliciting the form of the simple present tense. After that, Ss will be asked to write five sentences about their daily routine using the vocabulary in the box, and I demonstrate an example on the board. Then have group correction. Finally, I will ask the learners to check their answers in groups.

Controlled practice 1 (3-5 minutes) • To reinforce using the present simple tense

Ex.7 P.23 Ss in pairs try to guess the answer before listening to the audio. I will give them to read through the material and check any problem before asking them to listen. Then have peer correction. After that, have feedback.

Controlled practice 2 (8-10 minutes) • Forming Wh- questions in the present simple tense with (I, you, we, they).

Ex.8 P.23, Ss put the question in the table like the example given. Ex.9 P.23, Ss form questions with words given. Pair checking will be done before the feedback. Semi-controlled task, Ss use their own language to answer the questions they formed.
