Description

In this lesson the students will learn daily routine vocabulary and will practice using it to describe their own daily routines. They will also practice reading for specific information.

Main Aims

  • To provide scan and detailed reading practice using a text about a Turkish actor's daily routine

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and practice of vocabulary for daily routine
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of daily routines

Procedure

Warmer (4-5 minutes) • To check if the students know the vocabulary in ex.1a

I will start my lesson by greeting the learners. Then I will give them cut outs with vocabulary words for daily routines and will ask them to match them with pictures displayed on the wall. Once they complete it, I will have them show the picture to the class and read out the verbs. I will drill some of the trickier verbs, like leave/live, work/walk etc.

Building background for reading (4-6 minutes) • to introduce learners to some of the time vocabulary to help them understand and explain daily routines

In small groups the students will be asked to categorise the vocabulary according to time. The early finishers will write the answers on the WB.

Lead in (2-3 minutes) • To generate interest among the students for the reading passage

A short power point presentation will be shown to the learners to give them an idea what "a glamorous life" means. It consists of some of the things related to film industry and photos of some popular Turkish actors.

Eliciting (5-6 minutes) • To familiarise Ss to the main topic of reading passage

The learners will be shown a photo of the actor Sam Dane and will be asked to guess what an actor's daily routine is like. The students will be asked to do a short exercise (2a,b). The students will the answers on the worksheet and will share answers in pairs.

Gist Reading- Scanning (3-4 minutes) • To give an overview to the students what the text is about

The students will be asked to scan read the text and tell what the text is about.

Reading for specific information (11-13 minutes) • To develop ability of reading text and find out specific information (skimming)

The learners will be given handout to read the text about Sam Dune's daily routine thoroughly and respond to the true/false exercise (ex-3). Then the correct answers will be discussed in groups before getting the final feedback.

Free practice (7-8 minutes) • To enable students to use present simple to share their daily routines in short simple sentences.

In pairs or in groups the students will ask and tell about each others' daily routine. Sample sentences could be "What time do you get home?" I get home at 9 in the evening. etc. It will be followed by delayed error correction.
