Description

In this plan Ss practice reading for the gist and scanning reading subskills through a destination guide about Edinburgh. Ss review a variety of postive adjectives that describes places. At the end of the lesson Ss write a short description of their hometown.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide practise the writing process of a short hometown description

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of a variety of positive adjectives that describes places and reading for the gist.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss work in pairs and predict what is inside the envelope. Ss takes the picture out of the envelope. Ss find the place by decoding pictures below.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Ss work in pairs take paragraphs out of the envelope. Ss match the paragraphs with the headings. Ss underline the things that they would like to see or do.

Useful Language (12-15 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1.Ss identifies the adjectives in the scrambled sentence. CCQ: Are we talking about numbers with these words? No. Colour? No. Can we use these words to talk about places? Yes. Are they positive or negative? Positive. 2.Ss work in pairs, write positive description adjectives on cards given and stick on the board. ICQ: Positive or negative adjectives?T moinors and conducts immediate FB if necessary. 3.T gives the half sentence papers, Ss walk around to find the other half of the sentence. When they match, Ss stay together. Ss read aloud their sentences. 4.Ss complete the chart on WB.

Productive Task(s) (12-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss write a short description about their hometown (Bursa). T monitors, provides help if necessary.

Feedback and Error Correction (4-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Ss stick their descriptions on the walls. Ss walk around and read the descriptions. Ss work in pairs and disscuss which one they liked most? Why?
