School memories - Past Simple Tense

Description

In this lesson , students learn about the past simple tense through guided discovery based on a listening text about school days. The lesson starts by playing a listening track and eliciting that the people were talking about their school days using the Past Simple, this is followed by a guided discovery approach through reading the tape script of the listening tasks and asking students to analyse the TL forms by themselves. Finally there's a controlled practice to categorize some verbs into regular or irregular.

Main Aims

  • to introduce & give practice in using the past tense for negative, affirmative, and interrogative sentences on the topic of talking about school memories

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide listening practice about school memories.

Procedure

listening (2-6 minutes) • to provide students with a general idea about the listening text of school days

T makes a quick feed back of the previous part of the lesson to connect it with the new tasks students will receive, T,explains that students will listen to 3 people talking about their memories in school day,T tell students to get the general idea from the listening text

guided discovery approach (6-12 minutes) • To elicit the past simple tense

T. gives students a hand out and play the listening text again asking them to match a phrase from Column A with those in b.ex2 T.elicits from the students which tense was used and how they got it. T. gives students some stickers introducing negative and interrogative of past simple

(10-15 minutes) • Guided -Dscovery approach

T. provides students with a the tape script from the listening text getting students in pairs to find out the negative, interrogative and change partner to check each others analyse. T.provides students in groups with a set of verbs asking them to categorize them into regular or irregular . T. gives students a hand out of the irregular verbs. T. demonstrates Ex. 3 getting students to discuss it as a class

warm up (3-6 minutes) • warm up

T. holds a ball throw it to the students saying a verb and he replies with the past tense of the verb. T. give students a home assignment.
