Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Instructions: (Chest picture of a teacher working with students) What is this a picture of? Working with a partner, discuss how teaching styles have changed over the years? You have 3 minutes. ICQ: What are you going to be discussing? Task: The students will talk in pairs and discuss how teaching styles have changed over the years. Feedback: WCFB

Test #1 (7-7 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Instructions: (Chest handout) Working alone, fill in the blanks of these sentences using the words provided above. You have 5 minutes. ICQs: Are you working with a partner on this? N Task: The students will fill in the blanks of the given sentences with the intensifiers provided. Pair Check: Students will pair check upon completion of the task. Feedback: An answer key will then be given out.

Test #2 (3-3 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Instructions: (Chest handout, unfolded) Look at these two sentences. In pairs, discuss how these compounds change the adjective in the sentence. ICQs: What are we discussing? Task: Students will discuss how the given compound intensifiers change the adjective in the sentence. Feedback: WCFB

Clarification (15-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Instructions: (Chest handout) Working alone, read and complete the handout. ICQs: Are we working in groups for this? N Task: Students will complete the guided discovery handout provided. This will cover meaning, form and pronunciation. Feedback: WCFB after each stage of diagnostic test

Controlled Practice (7-7 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first two tests

Instructions: (Chest handout) Now, working with a partner, complete the following sentences with an intensifier, just like the first task. You have 5 minutes. ICQs: What are you putting in the blank? Task: Students will fill in the blanks of the given sentences with the given intensifiers. Feedback: Answer key will be provided.

Freer practice (5-5 minutes) • To provide students with freer practice of the target language

Task: Now think of a teacher that you've had, one that you could never forget. Talk about that teacher with your partner, and describe them using some of the intensifiers we've learned. ICQs: Who are you describing? (a teacher we've had) And what are you using to describe them? (Intensifiers) Task: Students will discuss in pairs a teacher they've had in their lives. They will discuss this teacher using the target language. Feedback: Nominate students
