Description

In this lesson Ss will read and discuss about the future of work. They will be given enough time to practice some listening skills such as skimming and scanning, but they will also be given the plenty of time to practice some fluency in speaking.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about a book called FUTUREWORK.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion about the future of work.
  • To provide clarification of unusual jobs in the context of the future of work.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

*The Ss will look at some pictures, and they will be asked to say what they can see. *After some guessing, the actual words will be said, the Ss will repeat them, and the words will be written on the board. * Ss will answer and discuss the following question: Which job will disappear in the future?Why? * The topic will be introduced.

Pre-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

* Individually, Ss will agree or disagree with some statements. * Ss will discuss their arguments in small groups. * Some Ss will have the chance to share their arguments with the rest of the class. * Instructions for the following stage will be given.

While-Reading #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

* Ss will receive some questions, and go around the classroom looking for the answers. * Ss will be given the complete text and they will check their answers. * Ss will have to read quickly the text and identify if FUTUREWORK is 1) a book, 2) a wedpage or 3) a magazine. * Ss will answer WHY they selected that answer.

While-Reading #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with a more detailed reading task

* Ss will read the text again and answer True or False individually. * Ss will check answers in pairs. * Answers will be written on the board.

Post-Reading (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned.

* Ss will discuss in small groups the following question: What will the new generations need to get a job in the future? * Some students will share some ideas with the rest of the class, and after that the class will be dismissed.
