To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about living with your parents in the context of families

To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of families

Procedure (40-40 minutes)

Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Instructions: When did you leave home? ICQs: Discuss the different ages for 2 minutes. Task: Speak with your partner Pair Check: N/A Feedback: Partners tell each others age they left home

Pre-Teach Vocabulary (10-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible and to teach any blocking vocabulary

Convey meaning: What do you call your Brothers or Sisters? Elicit Word: sibling! Check Meaning: [One or two questions or pictures] like mother or father or kids? Model and CIC Drilling: pronunciation Board Word: Elicit Syllables and Stress: 2 and on /sib/ Highlight Sounds: /s/ verse /z/ Elicit Forms: countable noun Convey meaning: What do you call your friends you live with? Detail Listening (10-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening task

Instructions: Listen to the text, answer the T/F questions and correct the false questions ICQs: Do you need to write long answers? What are you going to do the False Questions? Speaking (10-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on speaking fluency

Instructions: Discuss in groups of three for 5 minutes if the age for leaving home was normal? ICQs: Are you writing or speaking? How long do you have to talk? Task: Students work in groups of 3's to discuss ages of leaving home Pair Check: Check in Pairs Feedback: (Whole class feedback) WCFB
