Main Aims

  • In this lesson students will review and extend the awareness of future forms - will, going to, present continuous and present simple - and give controlled practice in them in the context of optimism.

Subsidiary Aims

  • The Sub Aim is to give Ss practice in listening for gist, specific information and detail.

Procedure

Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • make a link from the previous lesson by recapping what they said they are optimistic about.

I will get the students' attention by giving them example about "me" how optimistic I was, in my pregnancy, about my new baby I will introduce Ss to the topic that they will be listening to 5 people talking about what they are optimistic about.

Gist (8-10 minutes) • To get Ss know new vocabulary

before listening I will give Ss vocabulary sheet to make sure Ss are in familiar with some vocabulary in the listening part. I will explain the new vocab, match them with the examples. They need to get the meaning from the context.

Specific information (7-10 minutes) • To focus on ex 1. listening to 5 people talking about what they are optimistic about.

I will make clear that in this exercise Ss need to be figuring out if each person sounds pessimistic, optimistic about their personal future or optimistic about a global issue. Then have Ss listen

Personalisation (8-10 minutes) • Take general FB

In order to get the answers, I will pause after each speaker, have Ss work in GW to answer ex 1. and true or false in ex 2. at the same time with TCQ.

Language Focus (8-10 minutes) • Grammar review

I will ask Ss how many ways are there to refer to future tense? After interaction with Ss I will write down the 4 forms of the future on board. I prepared the rules and cut them up, therefore Ss need to match the slips of rules on board. Next step, I will remove the name of the forms keeping the rules on board and asking them to match some examples that suit each rule.

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • FB, to make sure now students can manahe to use each form correctly.

In this stage Ss will be giving their own example of at least 2 forms of future. Instead of saying each one's example, I prefer to have Ss say their partner's example for the benefit of using the subject he or she instead of I.
