in this lesson, students will learn new vocabulary with a main focus on listening

Materials

Abc English unlimited -student book -intermediate

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information, detailed and inference listening practice using a text about personal qualities in the context of jobs

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of obligation and compulsion " need to be & have to be " in the context of jobs
  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of personal qualities and matching people to jobs and activities
  • To provide clarification and practice of personal qualities in the context of jobs

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

before i start the class, i will put some pictures and quotations about personal aims and qualities that we should have for different kind of jobs , for example a photo of strong man cutting wood with axe and another one for engineer designing a building and i will ask them about what he should have to do it ."“once you meet your own self-effortlessly you can expand your best qualities to the outer world.”(Marcus Eurelius ). and "“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” " (Douglas Adams, The Salmon of Doubt). through discussion and pair work for small time and give them a quick feed back about it S.s will be involved in the class and ready to get the context

Pre-Listening (6-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening and make it accessible

after finishing my warm up , i will go to question 1.b page 55 and i will divide the students into four groups and i will make sure that they are from different ages and job categories so that each group of S.s will have a variety of Vocabulary to hear from each other it will take 4 minutes between them and F.B will be in about 4 minutes also

While-Listening #1 (5-9 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

this will be through ex.2 in page 55 / students now will listen to track and try put the topics in order which is listening for gist . i will ask them to listen individually after that they will check in Pairs . after that i will give them the F.B

While-Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

here on ex.3 they will listen to the track again for details and specific information to decide which things is important according to "Anne". after that in Ex.4 S.s will be divided into 3 groups agree about these two sentences . this will be in a grouping way that is different from the previous one .

Post-Reading/Listening (10-14 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

here on this exercise , the teacher will clarify the grammatical rules."obligation and compulsion " need to be & have to be " in the context of jobs in the listening . also he will clarify and practice the vocabulary found in the listening as they can make the best use of the lesson and there will be a writing using it , on Ex.5 S.s tend to use the grammar they got with the new vocabulary to match the activities and personalities with jobs in this exercise . on Ex.6 they will write four sentences about their job and the sort of persons it would suit . On Ex.7.a and 7.b ... it will be a speaking excercise so that they will productive skills also beside the receptive skills .. they will use the vocabulary and grammar they learnt in the lesson . and this will be as a practice for the aims clarified above
