Description

In this lesson the ss will learn about present continuous in an office context.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of present continuous tense in the context of office and business life.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about office and daily commute in the context of work routines

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Three pictures are distributed in the class. One picture for each student. The Students are asked to describe what the people in the pictures are doing. They describe to their peers what the people are doing in the pictures.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I distribute the worksheet about the listening. "Please listen and choose the correct answer." (instruction) The Ss listen a recording about the pictures. They choose the correct answer for each sentence by listening. WC FB as to answers. Problem: The ss may not be able to do the task in the first listening. Solution: Play the recording again.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

6 sentences are shown on the board. The Ss are asked to circle the verb in each sentence. Ask if they notice anything. Problem: They might circle different items of the sentence. Solution: Peer check.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

A timeline is drawn on the board. She is working at home today. Is written on the board. CCQ's. be+Verb+ing is shown to describe present cont. The students are asked to write Ving forms of some verbs.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are given a gap filling exercise and expected to fill them correctly. Problem: The exercise might be too short Solution: Immediately jump to semi- controlled practice.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

2 pictures are divided to each pair. They are asked to find the differences without showing the pictures to one another. Instruction: Show what they will do with a demonstration. WC FB

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Free practice: The Students do a roleplay with charachters from the listening. The names are written on the board each student chooses a character. Free talk- It is 10.05 am. What are they doing now? Problem: This migh be difficult for this level. Solution: Give an example of the roleplay. Provide a setting.
