Review of Simple past, and practice listening skills

Description

In this lesson I want to give the students some review of simple past as well as some time to improve their listening skills, so I am going to show them some pictures of Turkish actor, actress and writer, and they should guess the name, after that they will work in pair-group to make the same play. in addition, I am going to make some kind of connection between listening and grammar , through making them listen to a radio conversation and after that I will take the sentences and talk about them grammatically.

Main Aims

  • To provide review of Simple past in the context of actor! author!

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about some Turkish famous actors, actress author in the context of Radio show

Procedure

Warmer (3-4 minutes) • to have some kind of refresh for students and change their partners.

I will start the lesson, by some kid of refresh. The students worked all the time with the same partner, they know each other, what I am going to do is, I will call the students by name to come and stand up like a train and I will be the driver, so while I walking between the chairs from the left part of the class to the right, they should follow me and at each chair one of the students (behind me) should sit down and we carry on till the end of the row. in this game they will stand up and walk have some kind of refresh, and the same important thing is dealing with new partner in today's lesson.

lead-in (9-13 minutes) • To set the topic and prepare the students for the lesson.

I will start by asking the students ( Do you watch TV ), and after they answer, I will go deep into details and ask, who is in films? and make sure that they know the words actor and actress. and the next question will be, the person who writes book is? after I got their definition as writer or author (both of them are acceptable), I will start by quick game, I prepared some recordings about some Turkish (actor, actress and author) I will let them lesson the recordings and replay it again. and after they discus with their partners I will check their answers, and show them his/her picture thought projector, and if they have difficulty knowing the person I will skip up and show them his picture without his/her name under it, so at this way they will improve their listening ability, and work in pair-group. after the end of my pictures, I will divide them into groups and give them 2 minutes to write some information about someone they know, and from each group one volunteer will come and say his/her sentences in front of the class and they should guess the person.

improving listening skills (10-15 minutes) • They listen to an audio, and we will work about senteces to enhance their understanding of the audio.

I will flash on the board 4 pictures of the actor, actress and author, and the students is going to listen after that to an audio where we have a radio show program, so I will pause the audio for 4 times, and at each time I will let them guess the name of the person who talked about in the audio. and at the end of the audio, I will ask them to listen again, at the end of the audio I have HO of 4 short paragraph each one has sentences with tricky word or date ..... I will do the first sentence and they are going to work first of all individually and guess the answer, after that I will make them check their answers with one partner. and after that as a group of 4 students should check the answers. after that I will ask about the answers.

Gramar review (8-13 minutes) • to emphasiz about Simple Past, and connect the tense with the audio, which is already given.

I will talk in this stage about grammar, so I will use projector to show time line and to tell them that we have past, now and future. and I will write down on the board some sentences from the previous audio and discus the sentences and the form and the negative of the tense, after that I am going to emphasize about the use of (Last , Ago , Yesterday ). I will explain in brief the meaning of irregular verbs.

practicing useful, semi controlled exercises. (7-10 minutes) • to learn and write down the past form of irregular verbs.

I made HO about irregular verb, so they are going to fill the past form. and after that I am going to give them HO which has 6 sentences, in which the students are going to rearrange the words to have clear and full sentence. and here I will emphasize about the adverbs (last , yesterday and ago).

productive task (4-8 minutes) • to make them use the simple past freely, using their own words and ideas.

I will ask the students to write, 5 sentences about their life in the past.
