Description

In this lesson, the learners will practice reading by exploring the meaning of fate. The learners will also practice vocabulary by using expressions such as "no chance", "no way", when speaking about fate.

Materials

Main Aims

  • Reading: To provide practice in reading for gist and detail using two stories about fate.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Vocabulary, Speaking To provide practice in speaking for fluency To provide clarification and practice of phrases using „no“, e.g „no way“, „no chance“ to talk about fate.

Procedure

Warmer/Exposure (7-7 minutes) • To set and provide context for the target language through a story and engage students.

Introduce myself and ask Ss to introduce themselves once again. To tell a quick story about the topic. To elicit the meaning of "fate" Take w/c FB.

Highlighting (7-9 minutes) • To draw students attention to the different views on the topic

Listening exercise for main idea Discussion with individuals on the main idea Take W/C FB.

Clarification (18-20 minutes) • Practicing reading for gist and details using the two stories.

- Divide the class into two groups - A and B. Group A reads the text p.40 and answer the questions in ex.2. Group B reads the text and answer the questions on p-123 ss peer-check in their groups (each group monitored) Feedback within the groups - Each group does ex 3a as a group to practice retelling their story using questions in ex.2 Feedback still within the groups - Re-group the class - into pairs - 1A-1B ss tell each other about the story they read and give their opinion - which story do they like the most and why? General Feedback

Post-reading: Vocabulary exercises (7-9 minutes)

Ss work together to find the meaning of the phrases in both reading. Ss work in pairs and write and write a couple of true sentences using the phrases in ex.4 Ss stand up and share their ideas with a new student. General FB. Drill with some phrases.
