Description

In this lesson, the Ss will learn 'daily routines' vocabulary through a text about an actor's day-to-day life. The lesson will start with a Mr.Bean video, then will go on with vocabulary which are used to express daily routines.Afterwards, the Ss will practice reading for gist and for detail through the interview with Sam Dane.Finally, the Ss will improve their speaking skills in the context of actor's life.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about an actor's life in the context of daily routine

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of vocabulay in the context of daily routine
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a freer speaking practice in the context of actor's daily routines

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The Ss will watch a video of Mr. Bean's morning routine. Ask questions about Mr. Bean's routine. Take w/c FB

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Provide each student a vocabulary handout related to daily routines. Ask the Ss to match the verbs with the pictures in pairs. Ask the Ss finishing earlier to record the answers onto the board. Model and drill. Take w/c FB Ask students questions to make sure that they have understood the vocab. e.g. what time do you get up? Elicit four times of the day. Get the Ss to match the verbs with morning/afternoon/evening/night routines.

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Show Sam Dane's photo and ask the Ss to guess his job. Get the Ss to brainstorm about actors's life as w/c Ask the Ss to discuss if actors have glamorous life. Get a few ideas. Provide each student HO of the text. Get the Ss to scan the text and find the morning and afternoon routines of the actor individually. The Ss check their answers with their neighbours. Take w/c FB.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Provide each stıdent a True/False handout related to the text. Ask the students to read the text and tick the true sentences&correct the false sentences in pairs. Take w/c FB. Elicit false sentences.

Post-Reading (5-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ask the Ss to pretend to be a celebrity. The Ss work in pairs and talk about their daily routines and life with their partners. Get a few ideas.
