Description

In this lesson, students will be able to ask questions to talk about future plans using 'be going to'. They will also have a speaking practice to practice using TL.

Materials

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of question form of be going to in the context of future plans

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of future plans

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will talk about my future plans and say 'I am going to go on a holiday', are you going to go on a holiday'?.I will get fb. Then, I will refer to Sean's lesson and ask what they learnt in Sean's lesson.I will elicit sentences .

Meaning of TL (2-3 minutes) • To help the students understand the meaning of the TL

ı will write the sentence which I have elicited on the board and ask the students the following: Are we talking about the present or future?Future Then I will clarify where the sentence stress is located.

Form of TL (3-5 minutes) • To place emphasis on the correct form of the question of 'be going to'

I will write the sentence on the board and ask the students to identfy the form (am-is-are + + + going to + verb).Then I will ask how this form could be changed to the question form.In this stage I will try to get the form by eliciting from the students.If I notice any problems I will give clue to encourage them.

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I will give them handouts (filling gaps).They will be asked to fill the gaps with am-is- are to make questions.I will tell them to work alone.? Then they will check their answers with their partners.Next, I will write the answers on the board.

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • to prepare the students for the freer practice

I will give handouts which has verbs about plans and ask the students to write yes/no questions with you for these plans and ask them to use 'be going to'.While they are on their task I will monitor them and help if they need.

Freer speaking practice (4-5 minutes) • To give the students a chance to practice using the target language to enhance their fluency along with the accuracy

For the freer speking practice the students will talk about the questions and answers from the previous exercise.

Introducing related WH question words (4-6 minutes) • To teach the use of WH question words by using 'be going to'

I will elicit the WH question words 'what,where ,when and who'.I will ask CCQ to elicit these words. -Do we use 'what' talking about time?no -Do we use 'where' talking about places?no -Do we use 'when' talking about years and dates? yes

Checking production (5-7 minutes) • To check the understanding of the students in terms of using WH question words with the question form of 'be going to'

In this stage, students will be given cut off questioned formed sentences and will be asked th put the words in order with their partners.Then I will choose volunteers to write the answers on the board and they will be able to check their sentences.

Free speaking practice (5-7 minutes) • To give the students a chance to practice using the target language to enhance their fluency along with the accuracy

In this stage, students will work in pairs and they will talk about their holiday for next summer.I will give them a chart.They need to ask questions to their partners to fill the chart according to their partner's responses.

Delayed feedback (2-3 minutes) • To highlight the mistakes done by the students.

I will write any mistakes I have noticed during the controlled and freer practice.and I will elicit the corrections from students and explain any unclear issues.
