Description

In this lesson students are going to be divided into three groups and each group will have a different text. Students in each group will read their text quickly individually and after that they will answer some general questions about the text (gist reading). After that, students in each group will read individually again to answer true/false questions (scan/detailed reading). Students may check their answers with groups after they finish. After that, students will practice writing skills through writing a short paragraph to talk about their job and future plans.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T will display a picture of her best friend and tell students about her job and future plans. students work in pairs to decide if they like her plans. And After that, students tells their partners about their future plans and jobs.

Pre-Reading (8-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- T may use matching exercise to learn and review some words. - T prepares papers with three different organizations (Animal Care, Football Organization, Charity Center). Each Sts picks one paper and then they search for other Sts with matching papers. Sts sit down with their group of matching papers. T tells Sts that each group is going to read a different text (quickly and individually) and then answer some general questions about the text.

While-Reading #1 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist tasks

- T hands out HO1 and instruct sts to read the questions individually for a short time. When Sts are ready, T hands out the texts and instruct Sts not to start reading before she say so (paper faced down). Sts start start reading at the same time for 2 or 3 minutes and then answer the questions. Sts check answers with their group. T gives AK for each group to check answers. OPTIONAL: T may ask Sts to be in group of 3 (each member should come from a different group) and discuss their texts together.

While-Reading#2 (8-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed reading tasks

- T tells Sts they are going to read that text again and answer some true and false questions. T hands out HO2 and ask Sts to read the true and false statements and try to answer what they remember, after that Sts will read the text again individually and do the task. Students check answers with their group. T gives one red and one green card for each group. T reads the true/ false statements out loud and Sts discuss answers in their group. after a short time, each group should raise a red card for false statements and a green card for True statements. OPTIONAL T writes on the white board Read the text quickly and decide which places are mentioned in your text. Bank- Building site- Café- Factory- Hair salon- Hospital- Office- School- Shop- Sport center Sts do the task individually first and then check answers with their group. After that, a brief feedback is conducted with WC.

Post-Reading/ (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned through a writing exercise.

T Displays a short paragraph/sentences about her future plans and reads it out loud. T highlights the target language and form of going to. T asks Sts to write a short paragraph or a couple of sentences about their own future plans. T monitors each Sts closely to make sure they are on task and offers help if needed. T check Sts writings and corrects their mistakes

Extra Activity OPTIONAL (2-3 minutes) • to entertain students with a video in the context of Jobs

T may play an award winning short film about jobs (3 min)
