Main Aims

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about an ordinary life an amazing idea in the context of Extraordinary Lives.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- I am going to elicit Past Tense, regular and irregular verbs by giving some sentences about my yesterday on the WB. - I am going to organize the SS as a pair and encourage them to talk about their yesterday to each other by using those verbs that were written on the board.

Controlled Practice (8-12 minutes) • To prepare students for more meaningful practice

- I am going to give some verbs to the students as a HO ( Regular Verbs: invent, study, work, graduate, love, decide, Irregular Verbs: have, make,go,get, leave, write, become). All those verbs are related to the text which is in the book.( Cutting Edge, Elementary, page-62) - The students will read for gist and they are going to try to find those verbs' past forms in the text. - After they find all the verbs as much as they can, I will give them an AK so that they can easily see all the verbs with their base forms together. - I am going to write some sentences from the text on the WB. The students are going to have a choral drill all those sentences with their teacher. - As a second controlled activity, I am going to give the students a gap-filling. ( Cutting Edge, Elementary, page-63). - The students are going to write the verbs' past forms. .

Semi-Controlled Practice (3-4 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

- I am going to make a circle with SS including me in the middle of the class. - I will ask a question " Did you understand Past Tense?" to the student who stands next to me. He/ She is going to answer the question and he / she is going to ask the same question to the other person. That circulation will last until the last student asks the question. - I will ask one more question which is "Did you watch action film yesterday night?". The same circulation will turn one more time.

Free Practice (3-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- This is a very enjoyable, whole-class, free-speaking activity for which students sit in a circle. For this activity, I am going to start to tell a story, but after a few sentences, I stop narrating. Then, each student is going to start to narrate from the point where the previous one stopped. Each student is supposed to add from four to ten sentences. Students can add new characters, events, descriptions and so on. -After they finish writing their story, each student is going to read their story loudly.

Error correction (0-3 minutes) • To highlight and clarify their error on the board

- I am going to elicit their error on the board so that they use TL correctly. - After I elicit them, I am going to correct them by using different color board marker.

Additional Activity (0-5 minutes) • To complete the lesson on time

- I am going to ask to the students "What did you do last weekend?" - I may request from the students ask me some question by using Past Simple Tense.
