Main Aims

  • At the end of this lesson, students will have improved their ability to evaluate and compare, especially in the context of housing

  • At the end of this lesson, students will have learned additional vocabulary in the context of housing.

Procedure

Biltmore (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show ss a few pictures of the Biltmore estate, and give 2-3 sentence background. Solicit adjectives describing pictures

New Words (8-10 minutes) • Introduce new vocabulary for students to use with target language.

SS will receive handout that has them do word matches. Do individually, check in pairs, then do any they don't know.

Exposure: Evaluations and Comparisons (8-10 minutes) • Students will listen to the TL, and then offer opinions using TL

Students will listen to recording and answer questions. Check answers. Anticipate confusion regarding #5. In pairs, students give opinions using target language

Grammar Focus: Evaluations and Comparisons (5-6 minutes) • To introduce rules and grammar of previously encountered TL

Reveal the sentences that will illustrate grammar. Ask students for answers to demonstrate rules. CCQs

Controlled Practice: Evaluations and Comparisons (8-10 minutes) • SS will use TL in context of evaluating and comparing a house and an apartment

Evaluation: Instructions for activity, 2 examples, Student pairs complete sentences. Wkbk ex2 Comparison: Instructions for activity, 3 examples, Student pairs form sentences. SB ex3B

Free Practice: Evaluations and Comparisons (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the TL
