Description

In this lesson, students will learn about the vocabulary in the context of experts. The lesson starts with a speaking activiy in which the students discuss an experts' question in pairs. Then the teacher elicits the target vocabulary through the context of experts.The lesson will mainly have controlled and semi- controlled practice. Also the students will have opportunity to do some productive, speaking activities to improve fluency.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of vocabulary in the context of experts' questions

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review, clarification and practice of some vocabularies and their synonyms in the context of experts through speaking tasks.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T arranges the seating style in the class. T groups the students in pairs before giving instructions. T sticks some pictures on the board. T asks questions about the photos,sets the time and ss in pairs try to predict the answer. T stops the actitivity. T asks ss ideas.

Exposure (8-15 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T elicits the target vocabulary through a context of experts' questions. T asks for the synonyms of the vocabs. T drills the target vocabs. T writes the vocabs. T shows the stessed syllables of the vocabularies. T elicits the function of the vocabs. T does ECDW for the target vocabs through the context

Controlled Practice (5-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T groups the students. T gives instructions for the following activity. T passes the cut-outs for the matching activity. T sets the time for 3 mins. Ss ,in groups of 3, match the target language to the situations given. After they finish the activity the teacher gives the answer key HOs to each group as fb.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T groups the ss for a semi-controlled speaking activity. T gives instructions about the task. T demos by personalizing the activity. Ss write down 3 things they wonder a lot. Then ss build up experts questions on them to ask their peers. Peers try to answer. T monitors the ss. T gives fb on the board after the activity as error correction.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

If time, teacher groups the ss. T gives instructions. Ss brainstorms. Ss stand up and talk about what they've learned today. T- monitors. T praise.
