Main Aims

  • Ss will have used the target vocabulary while talking about their favorite cities.
  • Ss will have become familiar with the vocabulary necessary for describing cities. used target vocabulary while talking about their favorite cities.

  • Ss will have the opportunity to revise their writing to increase fluency.
  • Ss will have become more comfortable talking about their favorite cities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To have a smooth start and engage students

Ss will be asked how their weekend was and what they did at the weekend. They are encouraged to use basic adjectives while describing the things.

Introduce context (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a situation

T tells Ss about her weekend and uses some photos to set the context of describing objects with adjective+noun form.

Pre-teaching vocabulary (12-15 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

“delicious, fresh, busy, cosmopolitan, warm, wet, heavy traffic and square” will be introduced to the Ss. The meaning and pronunciation of the words will be elicited from the students using powerpoint slides through ECDW.

Task#1 (7-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning of the target language

Ss are divided into 4 groups and given cut-ups. They are given 5 min and asked to match the vocabulary with their definitions. Two ICQs are asked here: 1)Are we going to put them in order or match? 2) How many minutes do we have? After Ss are asked to get around and check the other groups' answers with theirs. T gives feedback if necessary.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss are given a gap-filling activity and asked to fill in the blanks with the correct word in the box. They are given 6 minutes to complete the activity. Two ICQs are asked here: 1) Which words are we going to write in gaps? 2) How many minutes do we have? After T asks the Ss to compare their answers with their partners. W/C feedback is provided.

Freer Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with freer practice of the target language

Ss are asked to write about their favorite city in 4-5 sentences. They are given 8 min to complete their writing. Three ICQs are asked here: 1) What are we writing about? 2) How many sentences are we going to write? 3) How many minutes do we have? After T asks them to swap their writings with their partners and check the mistakes. T monitors and takes notes.

Delayed Feedback (2-3 minutes) • To correct the errors Ss made.

T boards the examples of errors and good language usage and asks Ss to find the mistakes and correct sentences. WC error correction will be elicited from Ss.
