Description

In this lesson, learners will listen to interviews about achievements. They listen for specific information and for detail. They try to predict achievements from pictures of different people.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about achievements.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice and review of simple past and present perfect expressions in the context of achievements.
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a cnversation in the context of personal achievements.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show pictures of the 3 people (Aminata, Margot, & Charlie) Ask some Qs about pictures Let Ss talk about the pictures for specific time Ask Ss to predict achievements from pictures

Pre-Listening (9-11 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Give instructions about 3 pictures Ask Ss what are these people most proud of? Play the recording 1.25 Ss check answer in pairs Nominate Ss to write answer against each picture Do FB

While-Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Divide Ss into groups Give each group Qs about the 3 people They predict answers Now play recording 1.25 to check

While-Listening #2 (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ask Ss: Do you think each of them found it easy to do these things? Why? Ss discuss in pairs/groups

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ask if anyone has had similar experiences How easy or difficult it was to learn to do these things Ss share their experiences with class Divide Ss into groups/Paris and let them discuss
