Description

In this lesson, Ss read and talk about information media. They will discuss about different sources of getting information.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide scan and detailed reading practice using a text about information media.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of facts and information.
  • To provide review of past simple tense in the context of facts and information.
  • To provide clarification and practice of expressions in the context of facts and information.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask Ss the difference between fact and fiction, Ss give example Discuss the sources for getting information as a class. Extend the list if possible.Ex 1a Find about how learners feel about different sources. Which they tend to trust? Why? ex 1b

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ask Ss "Can you believe what you read?" Put them in PW and let them discuss Ss read the first sentence of the text Ss share ideas about Wikipedia. Ss read the article and match subheadings to the paragraph to get the main idea.. ex 2 pp8

Reading for detail (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Ss read the article again & answer the Qs in ex 3 Check answers as a class, encourage Ss to explain their opinions Give FB

Reading for detail #2 (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed and inference reading tasks

Ss do ex 4 to guess meaning from context First do an example Ss work in groups In FB check pronunciation

Post-Reading (7-9 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss read Qs in ex 5a, they ask for any difficult words Ss complete Qs and prepare answers Check answers and discuss in groups Encourage Ss to use new language Ask one S from each group abut sth interesting they found out Error correction and FB
