In this lesson students are going to practice functional language such as:expression of special days, months, ordinal numbers and dates of their events.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice special days expressions and ordinal numbers.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice phrases, listening and speaking for special days phrases, months, and ordinal numbers.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'm going to play a birthday music and a wedding one which is supposed to create a joyful atmosphere, then Students have to guess each one goes for which event.

Exposure (9-12 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

Students are going to match the vocabularies distributed to them to their pictures on the wall (ex.1 a wedding, a new year's Eve party, a birthday, a wedding anniversary, the birth of a new baby). This activity is followed by a similar one ( ex.2 Happy birthday, Happy new year, Congratulations and Happy anniversary ).A WC FB will be done as T-S. Now drilling for vocabularies in exercise 2 followed by listening practice ex.3. Students should reply for each event altogether chorally.

Task (4-5 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice and revise moths order and pronunciation

Students are handed by the months of the year, and are asked to put them in correct order on the board. A quick drilling and revision for pronunciation and stress for each month.

Matching Task (7-9 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to discover and practice ordinal numbers.

A new task where class will be regrouped when each student has to find a new partner by matching their ordinal numbers with ordinal number words( 1st with first ...etc). After taking their chance to read their ordinal numbers, I am going to check their pronunciation and the whole class will drill after them while they are raising their paper to show their number.

Listening exercises and more practice. (7-9 minutes) • To allow students to combine between a receptive and productive skills ( listening and writing).

Recording 3.12 for ex.6 will be played so students here are supposed to fill gaps with correct answers( months "April, July, May").I will play the audio again for the FB. Recording 3.13 for ex.7 is played also to circle the right answers ( December 13th, March 14, July 22nd, October 20th, February 1st). The record is played again for FB.

Speaking Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice task language.

Some questions are going to be handed for students as suggestions (When is your birthday? When did you graduate? When did you get married? )to ask their partners about important dates for them and write down their answers, then ask them why these dates are important for them. The FB is to share interesting dates with the whole class. Finally Error correction.
