Description

In this lesson, the students are going to develop their speaking skills through listening and speaking activities. The lesson begin with a personal story of the teacher. After the teacher talks about a memorable event she has attended, she gives students several speaking tasks and one listening task. At the end of the lesson students are instructed to interview each other, so that they can develop their productive skills freely.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of memorable events.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To review the vocabulary of extreme adjectives.

Procedure

Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set the context.

Show some visual and introduce the topic through the visuals and a personal anecdote. Following this put the students into pairs and project the useful phrases on the board. Tell them to ask " What is the most memorable event you have ever attended?" nominate a few students to share their discussion with the whole class.

Exposure (7-9 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a listening text.

After distributing the Exercise 2 to the students, tell them to read the questions on it. After they read the questions on it, play the audio track and instruct them to answer the questions for each person. Give the students 1 minute to check their answers in pairs. After that the teacher distributes Exercise 3 to the students and instruct them to work in pairs to find the answers. The teacher plays the audio track again by instructing them to check their answers individually.

Higlighting (10-11 minutes) • To draw students attention to the TL.

Following this the teacher distribute the Tape Script and tell student to underline the vocabulary they don't know. put them into pairs and tell them to try to guess the meaning of the vocabulary they both don't know. After that ask each pairs if there is any vocabulary they don't know. Try to elicit the meaning from WC, if you can't convey the meaning with an example sentence. Play the track again to let them check their answers and listen to the usage and pronunciation of the words in context.

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • Clarification

The teacher projects some useful phrases on the board and tells the students to use the phrases in a sentence by working in pairs. After that the teacher nominates some students to share their sentences with the whole class. Following this ,the teacher tells the students to choose one or more memorable events (from the Exercise 1) they have attended.

Free Activity (10-12 minutes) • To provide the students with the opportunity of using the target language.

Give students a few minutes to think about their questions, and tell them to mingle around and asks questions to each other about the most memorable event they have attended. Tell them to take notes during the interview. After that nominate some students to summarize briefly to the class one of the events his/her friends told he/her about.
