Lead In (10 minutes) • To introduce the topic of DIY

YouTube Videos - Andy the Handyman Disasters?Tim the Tool man? Look at the picture P. 54 What kind of shop is it? = DIY store / hardware store Listen 1b) - What 4 objects does he want to buy?

Vocabulary - DIY (15 minutes) • Ss learn vocabulary related to DIY

Vocabulary Bank - P. 160 1) IN A SHED When / Where do we use them? 2) IN THE HOUSE When / Where do we use them? 3) VERB PHRASES Matching Ex. **************(If time permits... PRONUNCIATION 2b)

PARAPHRASING (25 minutes) • Ss practise paraphrasing

T. writes the following n the W/B: "I'm looking for the thing / tool you use for + verb + ing" "It's a kind of......" "It looks like.........." "Sorry, but I can't remember the word......" ACTIVITY - 2 teams - CUT-OUTS = 24 "It's the thing / tool you use for....... Teams compete to guess the word.

Listening (20 minutes) • Ss practise listening skills

P.56 - "Brilliant uses for Everyday Things" Divide class into 5 Groups Each reads a section and completes 4 a) 4c) HIGHLIGHTED VOCABULARY - 1. a potato - take out = remove 2. a bowl - make a speaker = amplify the sound 3. mayonnaise - remove = wipe clean 4. rice - repair = dry the phone 5. a banana - fix = rub and polish

Grammar - Obligation, Necessity, Prohibition, Necessity (15 minutes) • Ss practise grammar

T. writes the following on the W/B - OBLIGATION & NECESSITY have to - general obligation - "We have to fix the kitchen tap" (House will fill with water!) must - personal obligation - "You must be more careful!" (You don't want me to worry!) need to - necessary - "I need to buy some more paint."( More paint = finish the job) NO OBLIGATION You don't have to pay me now. (You can pay me later) NO NECESSITY You needn't hurry. (We have plenty of time) PROHIBITION You mustn't change the bulb with the electricity switched on! (It's dangerous!)
