in this lesson we will be discussing celebrities roles when it comes to politics. the lesson will be based on reading and speaking

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about celebrities (actors, stars, comedians, etc.) who become politicians.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide speaking practice about celebrity politicians, politics and celebrities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in to the topic by reading and speaking (10-12 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

As part of a warmer, students are put into pairs and given 2 reading texts. Each student will be discussing with his or her partner what the text is about. Second part of the warmer is to talk about questions regarding celebrity politicians as a class. In this stage we might encounter problems as is turkey there aren't a lot of celebrity politicans. Therefore the second part of this activity will be done with w/c

guess the celebrity. What do you know about arnold? (7-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text

This stage the students will be guessing the celebrity from the animation on ppt. Once they find out who he is and spell his name correctly, they will be discussing first in groups then wc what they know about him.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Before the activity some vocab. is covered on the board via ppt. The students are given a text about arnold sch. and are asked to look for which details were referred to that they previously talked about. wc fb .

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The students are put into groups. They are asked to provide the detailed task , ordering the given paragraphs. This task will be like a competition and the winner will be announced wc . fb sessions as to the answers.

Post-Reading/Listening Debate. (5-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

There will be a debate about qs on ppt . there will be 2 groups. the students are expected to defend the opposite of what the other group is saying.
