Description

In this lesson ss learn about ways to improve memory through a reading text. Students will do pre-reading, while reading, after reading activities during the lesson. They will read for gist and details.They will work in pairs and they will discuss their ideas.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about memory, in the context of 10 ways to improve memory

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of what methods do we use to remember?

Procedure

Warmer/ Lead in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T elicits 'what methods do you use to remember things. T demos T asks learners to discuss S give answers T passes the copies of the Cutting Edge Int. Level course book page 20-21 HO to each learner. T asks them to look at the pictures and talk about the man's methods in the pictures

pre-reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T gives instructions on the second activity of the reading text. S do PW. They discuss the ideas from the box in ex.2. The Q is; Do these things help to improve your memory? Why/Why not? T asks each groups ideas. Why/ Why not?

While-Reading/Listening #1 (12-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T gives clear instructions for gist reading and sets the time for no more than 3 min. T demos. S skim the text and check their answers to see which ways improve memory. T does whole class feed back after gist reading. Then T gives instructions on finding which statements are true false or not known in ex.4 T demos. S scan the text to find the correct answers. T gives whole class feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned
