Description

The lesson is about 45 minutes where students will be working on listening skills.They will use different listening techniques (listening for a gist,listening for a detailed information)The students' level is intermediate and they look motivated and eager to learn.They are of different ages ranging between 22 to 55 years old.Rapport with them will be built as the lesson is passing smooth

Materials

Abc Students book copies,pictures,gap-fill hand outs,colourful papers.(Cutting Edge Intermediate)

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about all about you in the context of things in common

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of things in common

Procedure

warmer-lead in (4 minutes) (2-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets ss and show them a picture of a family and ask some general questions about the picture in order to make a link with students' lives.T also elicits 'So do I,Neither do I'expressions to remind them they have already known before.

Pre-Listening (7 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening and make a brainstorming about the context of the listening.

T shows a picture including 3 members who take roles in the listening part.They will predict the answers of the questions on the whiteboard.They will work in pairs.After they listen the dialogue,they will get the correct answers.

While-Listening (10 minutes) • To provide students a challenging gist

Tell Ss to listen to the CDs and fill in the schema with topics in the conversation 1 and they will only tick the topics they heard in the dialogue in the conversation 2. Firstly,students check their answers in pairs and take FB and check their answers with teacher.

While Listening (10-15 minutes) • Listening for a specific information

Handouts includes three schemas sharing common part.In the Listening 1,Katie,Petra and Philips have each schema in the handout.While students are listening things in common between these people,they will write what these common things are.In the listening 2,they will get the same exercise and then,check in pairs.Give them answer key.

Post Listening/Speaking (10 minutes) • To give students a chance to discuss in a big group about telling things in common with productive skill

T gives ss some role cards.Each card has 4 sentences.In the activity,students walk around the class and try to find the people who share the same with him.During the activity,they tell their sentences and answer with the in common expressions such as 'so do I,neither do,ıts the same with me'Whoever finishes first is the winner in the class.

Back-Up Speaking Activity (5-6 minutes) • To assess the time encourage students to speak fluently

T gives colourful cards including some topics and T wants them to talk about their things in common each other while they are walking around the class.
