In this lesson, students will learn about free time activities, they will work on the meaning, form and pronunciation of some of the free time activities (e.g. go skiing, go+verb+ing, [skee-ing]) , also they will listen to an audio and will get familiar with the consonant-vowel linking, then will have a review and practice about the present simple positive and negative (he/she/it)

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of vocabulary phrases in the context of free time activities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information, deduction listening practice using a text about being away from home in the context of free time activities, work
  • To provide review, clarification and practice of present simple: positive and negative (he/she/it) in the context of work and free time activities

Procedure

Lead-in and vocabulary introduction (10-12 minutes) • to set the context, engage students interest and check their level of familiarity with the new phrases

put the pictures up on the wb, " do you know some these activities? (elicit answers) here are their names,work in your group and talk about these, for example here it says read books, which one is it? ok you have 2 minutes," "now stick it on the board next to it's picture." check and drill the phrases. chorally, individually put the stress on he cards (elicit) write the pattern: go+ verb + ing (elicit the pattern ) highlight: listen to *the* radio but listen to music (elicit the difference) (remember to stick them next to each other)

freer practice (5-6 minutes) • students practice using the new phrases and review the frequency adverbs

" Do you do any of these activities? " elicit answers (make sure they use the complete sentence and TL ) nominate students ask: Zeki Do you watch sport on tv? draw bubble speech on the board, elicit how to make questions with you, give some answers. pre-Listening (3 minutes) • get students interested about the topic of the conversation and the listening and clear up some words

pre-Listening activity and listening 2 (4-5 minutes) • review of the new phrases and getting the students interested for the listening and then listening for specific info

" now in pairs, discuss what does Paul do in his free time? what do you think? choose three or four activities from these activities, you have 2 minute" "now listen and check if your guesses are correct" peer-check ask or nominate students for the feedback : watches sport on tv, goes skiing, goes running, takes photos and goes swimming ( always? no on new year's day )

help with listening (10 minutes) • introduce and practice the linking

now what are the vowel sounds? (a,e,i,o,u ) and what are the consonants ? (b,p,l,t etc) write on the board the board : "the people at the weather station all work six days a week." what is the last sound you hear in the word people? L (is it a vowel or a consonant?)and what is the first sound your hear in the word at?
