Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, practice and review of adverbs of frequency (everyday, often, sometimes, never) in the context of food

Subsidiary Aims

  • To review and practice vocabulary for foods.

Procedure

Lead in (2-3 minutes) • To gain Ss' interest in the topic and set a context

-T tells Ss what kind of Turkish food he likes in order to gain their interest in the topic.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a context for the lesson

-T asks Ss about the types of food they know (Ss write their answers on the WB). After that, T asks Ss to work in pairs and tell their partners which one(s) they really like/don't like.

Listening Comprehension (6-8 minutes) • To improve Ss' listening skills.

- T gives Ss handouts (with words and photos about food) and asks them to match the words with the photos. After giving Ss numbers, T asks Ss with the same number to check whether they have the same answer or not. - Using the projector, T will show the photos on the WB and play the recording (1.65) to have Ss check their answers as a class.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a context for the target language

- For gist listening, T plays recording 1.66 once and have Ss say what Emma and Andre eat. T asks Ss to work in pairs and check their answers. T plays the recording again and have Ss check as a class. After listening to Ss' answers, T may give Ss a copy of the audio script and play the recording again to have them check their answers. T highlights some sentences containing the target language (often, never). - Using the projector, T shows Ss a photo explaining the meaning of "everyday, often, sometimes, never" and how to use them.

Clarification (6-8 minutes) • To draw Ss' attention to the word order.

- T draws Ss' attention to the word order by writing sentences (from the photo shown by the projector) on the WB. After doing the first one as an example, T motivates Ss to do the rest.

Practice (3-6 minutes) • To check that Ss know the word order

- T gives Ss handouts with disarranged sentences to put them in the correct order to check that Ss know where to put "everyday, often, sometimes, never" in a sentence. In pairs, Ss check their answers.

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To check Ss' understanding to the target language.

If there is time, Ss will do the activity of "find someone who...." e.g; Find someone and write his name: 1- ........... never eats Bamya. Ss talk about those people they have in their answers.
