Procedure

Warmer/Lead in (4-6 minutes) • Review time telling

T shows a picture related to time telling. Ss look at the board and try telling the time shown. Power point slides may be better than the pictures in ex 2a p24) If necessary to revise the numbers used in telling the time T silently uses his palm and elicits #5 , then asks students to work in pairs taking roles in saying numbers from 5 to 55. e.g. Student A: 5 Student B:10 Student B: 15 and so on till #55 HO clocks and timings distributed to students randomly and Ss mingle to match the timing to the right clock.

Listening (3-5 minutes) • Listening for gist

Ex3a T sets the context & gives the students 30 sec to answer(What do you see in the pictures?) in pairs. 1 two men;in a swimming pool 2 a man&a woman in the street 3 a man&a woman at home Ss listen to recording 1.51 once and check in pairs. T plays it again pausing after key information .

Vocabulary (3-4 minutes) • Morning,afternoon,evening; day,night

Ss look at the Day&Night picture shown on the board by power point. T presents the words day and night. T asks: Is it day now, or night? T asks: What's it now? Morning, afternoon or evening?

Vocabulary (3-5 minutes) • Days of the week

Ss look at the board to read "today" / "tomorrow". T elicits the rest of the days. Today is Monday Tomorrow is Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday

Listening (4-6 minutes)

T draws Ss attention to Aki's diary and asks them to guess(in pairs) when she is free, busy, not here. Ss listen to recording 1.57 and fill the gaps in ex 2. Check in pairs. T plays the recording again for feedback.

Grammar (7-9 minutes) • Introduce in,on and at

Ss fill in the gaps in pairs in ex3a . T draws the table on board while Ss are working. T uses the table to establish that we use - "in" before parts of day -"on" before days -"at" before times Ss do ex3b. Cover the table and add in ,on or at. Ss check in pairs. T writes the correct answer on WB.

Speaking (6-10 minutes) • Ss use the 3 time prepositions in,on and at

T writes 3 sentences on WB I'm free on Saturday and Sunday. I'm busy on Monday and Thursday. I'm busy in the morning. I'm free in the evening. T leaves I'm free on ..../I'm busy on..... on WB and erases the rest of the sentences.T encourages Ss to write about themselves and compare in pairs. EX4 T asks Ss to find out when they both are free (Student A p 89 / Student B p95) -They are both free on Monday afternoon.
