To provide speaking practice for accuracy with agreement/disagreement statements.
Procedure (21-45 minutes)
Put up a pıcture of a traffıc jam on WB. Elicit the word `congestion`. Ask sts if they have bad traffic in their city. Ask sts to discuss in pairs what could be done about this problem. Ask sts if they know any cities where congestion charges are applied. Give an example of London, Singapore.
Show sts the handouts and tell them to read the text and answer 2 questions- What two problems are there with traffic and what mayor wants to do about it. Tell sts to work in pairs. Ask ICQs, deliver handouts Get fb.
Assign roles to sts, Tell them to discuss in pairs how congestion charge may influence different aspects of city life(given on handouts). Demonstrate how they should carry out their role.
Ask sts to imagine they are in a meeting with a mayor who wants to listen to all pros and cons of introducing congestion charge. Ask sts to tell their ideas to the others using agreement/disagreement statements on the WB. At the end of the discussion make a decision as a mayor. Take careful notes of sts mistakes.
